JAZZ CONVENTION. 25 January 2015 (Italy)
By Marco Buttafuoco

Il pianista Patricelli la coltiva e sviluppa in questi Works for Drums and Piano col batterista Olskær.

COPENHAGEN POST. 19 November 2013 (Denmark)

Perhaps an indication should be found in the inspiration for the opera’s score. Syng for fremtiden, Ingeborg! is inspired by the Danish folk singer Ingeborg Munch. The performance combines jazz and minimalist elements and is performed to a backdrop of documentary footage taken from her life.
It has an almost Hitchcockian feel – an ominous sense of dread gradually building and then vanishing. One that certainly would have my dear old grandmother turning in her grave!
Patricelli, who is a critically-acclaimed classical pianist in his own right, studied musical anthropology at the University of Bologna, and this gave him fresh eyes to examine the Nordic folk ballads of an age long forgotten. Ultimately this was the reason why he decided to draw inspiration from such an obscure source.

How the Italian in the north swapped the mundane for musical acclaim.
It has taken six years, but the career of Mauro Patricelli, a classical composer from Italy, is back on track.
The Danes are known by their Nordic compatriots as the ‘Italians of the north’. This is supposedly because they are proud, a little bit temperamental, but ultimately don’t take things too seriously.

CADENCE MAGAZINE. April 2013 (USA)
By David Franklin
This recording composed by pianist Patricelli serves as a showcase for the brilliant interaction of two instruments treated as equals by a pair of virtuoso musicians. Thus, the drums do not play an accompaniment role, but rather share the spotlight with the piano throughout.
Each piece is devoted to some aspect of the drums' technical or expressive possibilities. For example, Patricelli entitled one track "Paradiddle Rondo and another "Double Hi-Hat Etude."
Most of the performances brim over with rhythmic vitality, although "Elegia," as its title suggests, projects a more lyrical quality. And "In Forma Di Lied," in ABA song form, cotrasts its dashing A sections with a quieter B.
Altogether, the program is varied and, due especially to its novel nature, quite fascinating, as well as being musically satisfying. The ensemble is tight and cohesive, its members playing together with remarkable precision.

Could be music for dance, its classical vibe conjuring images of movement and velocity. “Paradiddle Rondo” kicks things off with a marching cadence that’s not quite 4/4, each player shadowing the other.
Pianist Mauro Patricelli (sole composer here) throws down uncanny percussive cadences and sensitivity to pulse. “Elegia” reflects another dimension, its relaxed flow a breather, the modal structure, while still melodic, full of space.
“Responsoriale” is manic, broken up, alternately playful while still offering that incessant pulse and a good view of drummer Chano Olskaer’s sensitivity to nuance and groove.
