Drums & Piano Duo.

The essence of this new project is to explore the intriguing possibilities of the modern drum
set when combined with the percussive potential of the piano in a chamber music approach.
I
wrote a collection of pieces where jazz, rock, classical reminiscences and folk
dances merge in a neutral zone that requires performers to handle complex
figures, both in
interplay and as soloists.

Most pieces are here conceived as a typical classical studio and focus either on a single aspect
of drums technique or on a specific sound melange between piano and drums. The drum set
has a structural function and it is never used as an accompanying instrument. The piano responds
to the rhythmical design of the drums and develops an harmonic texture by using ostinato patterns.

The entire program was successfully premiered in Copenhagen at the Italian Cultural Institute
in March 2008, and a video recording of the performance, produced with support from the IIC,
will be soon available.
